In 2020, the generation of value of Incarlopsa, a leading company in the production and processing of pork products in Castilla-La Mancha, amounted to 693.3 million euros, an increase of 2.7% over the previous year and representing 1.8% of the GDP of Castilla-La Mancha. This is an example of the company’s commitment to economic development and the generation of value around its 10 production centers, located in rural areas of Spain.
Value creation is one of the aspects covered in the Sustainability Report for the 2020 financial year. The document, in addition to reporting on the company’s main financial results and its non-financial performance, including environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG), analyzes and includes for the first time its contribution to 11 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Among the efforts made, its contributions to stand out: SDG 2, Zero Hunger; SDG 9, Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, SDG 11, Sustainable Cities and Communities; and SDG 12, Responsible Production and Consumption.
The report is a reflection of the company’s efforts to promote responsible economic, environmental and social activity that has a positive impact on all its stakeholders. This effort is based on stable corporate governance, a solid commitment to quality and safety, a strong commitment to innovation and environmental management, in which the circular economy and resources aimed at minimizing the impact of its activity stand out.
Commitment to local suppliers and to its human team
Incarlopsa is committed to contracting local suppliers for the supply of raw materials and services. Thus, the bulk of Incarlopsa’s value generation comes from purchases of livestock from its 44 Spanish suppliers. In 2020, it allocated €452.3 million to this item, 6.8% more than in 2019.
This positive impact extends to other areas of its activity, such as its commitment to the generation of stable employment in the areas where it operates, helping to fix the population in rural areas. In 2020, the company had 2,440 workers, 1.5% more than in 2019, of which nearly 74% had permanent contracts, compared to 65% in 2019. 33% of Incarlopsa’s workers in 2020 were women.
In relation to its environmental performance, the company has established several strategic objectives in its “Vision 2022” plan, which sets out its roadmap for the coming years.
In 2020, Incarlopsa has reduced by almost 15% its volume of CO2e emissions compared to 2019 and its waste management has avoided the emission of 3,909 t of CO2e thanks to the recycling of its packaging. It has also reduced food waste by 96,000 kilograms and wastewater discharge related to its production by 7.4%, among others.
Finally, in a year marked by the pandemic, the company has doubled the resources allocated to its social commitment to 584,000 euros. This includes the donation of more than 54,000 kilos of food, one ambulance and 85,000 units of medical supplies. In the area of sports, the company reinforced its commitment by supporting different projects aimed at young people and the promotion of healthy lifestyles through sports, among others.
